SPEECH 111

Tuesday, February 14, 2006

Event/Situation: An 8:00am lecture class on art history on Tuesday entitled “Art History

Survey I” taught by Professor Michelle Lang.

Speaker: The speaker for this class is Michelle Lang, head of the Art History Department at

UNK.

Interface: This speaker presented information to the audience mostly by verbal means as well

as visual. She uses slide projections to display works of art that she is discussing. There is not

much interaction between the speaker and the audience besides a few minor discussions.

Adapting to Interface: The speaker does not have to do much to adapt to the reactions of the

audience. On occasion she will pose a question to the audience and if the audience has no answer

she realizes that perhaps she needs to clarify herself or be more specific. When the audience

asks questions of her, she is able to answer or most often she will make reference to another

source through which answers may be sought.

Feedback: The audience does not have much room for feedback in this lecture class. Some

students will stay after class and ask questions of the Professor but more often students

interact with each other when they need any clarification. The audience’s reaction to this lecture

is neither positive or negative and I suspect that, like myself, other students are taking this

course only because it is required of them.
